100% Wells set to apply for promotion

Thursday 25th September 2008

TUNBRIDGE WELLS boss Mike Robbins has revealed his club will do whatever it takes to clinch promotion into the Ryman League at the end of the season, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Wells are the only side in the Bulmers Cider Kent League with a 100% record, following wins over VCD Athletic (1-0); Lordswood (2-1); Sevenoaks Town (2-1); Faversham Town (3-1) and Croydon (1-0).

However, despite that record, the Wells are behind Holmesdale (19 points) and Hythe Town (16) in the table, although they’ve got games in hand over their rivals.

Robbins highlighted his aims were to finish in the top six this term, but their excellent start has prompted the club to set their sights higher.

“If we can be in touch with the top six, I’m lead to believe the committee will apply (for promotion) anyway, so they know what (improvements) they’ll do with the ground,” Robbins told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“But that’s obviously one step at a time. Lets hope we are up in the top five or six at the time when these decisions have to be made.”

The manager’s aim is to be the man that leads the club into the Ryman League.

He said: “Of course my ambition is to manage at the highest possible level and also my players to play at the highest possible level.

“We’ve had a two or three year plan to get up there. It took Keith (McMahon) at Thamesmead two seasons (to clinch promotion).”
