Fleet suffer first defeat of season as Woking gain revenge

Well it took a good team and a poor Fleet ladies performance but finally Gravesend and Northfleet Ladies recorded their first defeat of the season, losing out to league rivals Woking Ladies last Sunday, writes Stephen McCartney.

Fleet ladies successfully destroyed Woking ladies last week 4-0, in the FA Cup round first round, but just couldn’t repeat this fantastic performance.

Whether this was because Woking Ladies raised their game and were determined not to be beaten two weeks running or the Fleet ladies team were underperforming on the day, the final score finished 2-0 to Woking and brought about Fleet ladies first defeat since 21st August this season, ending a fantastic start to the season.

The first half saw both teams fighting it out in a tough match for possession of the ball and to create attacking opportunities, but neither goal keeper had much to do in a closely fought battle that saw Woking take the edge over Fleet ladies in most areas of the pitch.

After the half time break Fleet came out much more determined for the second half and started to dominate the game, unfortunately this didn’t last and the Fleet team allowed their normal high standards of play to slip allowing Woking to take advantage and lead the game for the rest of the half, scoring two goals to take the win.

Fleet ladies were very disappointed with this performance and realise they cant afford to let their game slip if they are to stay in the top places in this league with so many good teams involved.

On Sunday, 6th November, Gravesend face Hastings at home, a fixture that has always proved tough and produced close results in the past, the ladies team will need to hit top form again if they are to get back on track against this side

The league match, which gets underway at 2pm, takes place at the AEI Sports & Social Club in Gravesend.
