Daish delighted with work-rate

Gravesend & Northfleet extended their unbeaten run to four games with yesterday's 2-1 victory over Southport through goals by skipper Paul McCarthy and man-of-the-match Danny Slatter.

Before the game both teams were locked together on seven points from their Nationwide Conference matches this season and they looked evenly paired in the early exchanges.  Both sides fielded the same starting eleven for the third consecutive game.

Fleet boss Liam Daish, however, felt the conditions played a part in the match.

He told the Non League Paper: "I'm very pleased for the lads today.  They worked very hard in difficult conditions and got what we deserved.

"We did it the hard way but we've got a good, honest bunch of lads.  They graft, they work hard and take their football seriously.  We won't fall short for lack of work rate."

The Fleet boss hailed the efforts of his goalscorers, adding: "We're sharing the goals around now and it's good to see defenders and midfielders getting on the scoresheet."

Fleet's crocked strike force are set to fit for Saturday for the long trek up north to Scarborough.

"Both Charlie MacDonald and Manny Omoyinmi should be Ok for next week."
