Barking gain revenge on Brickies

This was a closely fought game which was settled by two goals scored early in each half by the home side, writes Peter Pitts.

Sittingbourne's line up showed five changes from the team that started last Saturday's game against Barking.

Still missing from the squad are the injured Jon Neal and Toby Ashmore.

The Sittingbourne junior barmy army added some colourful atmosphere to the game despite the gate being just 76.

The new look team quickly found themselves a goal down when on 5 minutes Wayne Vaughan found himself with acres of space on the edge of the Brickies area and he calmly looped the ball round Williams and into the net.

Barking then took confidence from the goal and had the better of the early
part of the half. A young fox came running onto the pitch and made for the Barking goal, pity he / she didn't take the ball with them and help out the Brickies forwards!

Sittingbourne at last began to make some progress and on 35 minutes Bradley Spice had a free kick that caused some problems before
the ball was cleared.

However, it was Barking who had the last shot of the half when Steve Williams came rushing out of his goal only to beaten to the ball by Carl
Bruce but Bruce headed over the bar.

Barking's second came just two minutes into the second half when Steve
Blaney opened up the Brickies defence and crossed to an unmarked Andy
Aransibia who fired the ball home in off Williams.

Sittingbourne seemed to be fired up by this further setback and James Campbell had a headed effort punched out by Barking's keeper Tony Tucker but only as far as the lively Ricky Spiller whose return shot went just wide.

Sittingbourne brought on Lee Browning and Clint Gooding and immediately the team began to play with more confidence. A Browning / Spiller move led to a chance for Mitchell Sherwood but his header went wide. Then on 59 minutes Sherwood had another effort go wide.

The game then went through a period where neither side was making headway that is until 80 minutes when a marvellous weaving run by Browning ended in a good shot well saved by Tucker.

Six minutes later there was hope for the Brickies as Mark Lovell had a shot deflected for a corner and then from the corner the Brickies marksman headed home an effort which gave Tucker no chance.

Barking came back well and two minutes later Troy Braham had a shot
deflected for a corner and then from the corner Browning was on hand to kick the ball off the line.

Sittingbourne then pushed all of their men forward in search of an equaliser including keeper Williams who was nearly left stranded after going up for a corner and the ball was quickly cleared upfield by the Braking defenders, however the clock beat the Brickies and its now one game all between these two closely matched sides.

Despite the defeat there was plenty for Sittingbourne to savour from the
game including yet another commanding performance from Williams in the
Brickies goal and good performances from the energetic Spiller and Browning who came on as a second half substitute.
