Angels take on the girls for charity

A MATCH has been arranged to raise funds for Tonbridge Angels Football Club and the Pickering Cancer Drop-in Centre, writes Stephen McCartney.

A Tonbridge Angels XI will take on the Pickering Drop In Centre Devils Ladies XI at the club's Avavan Longmead Stadium on Sunday 8th May.

Gates open at 12noon with the match kicking off two hours later.

Admission prices are £10 (family) £4 (per adult) and £2 (OAP's and children under 16).

The centre was named in memory of Dr David Pickering, a dedicated local oncologist, who died suddenly in 2002.

In March 1998 a Breast Cancer group was set up and attended by about 30 women all of whom had been or were being treated for breast cancer, together with a few husbands and friends.

From this original meeting a committee was formed called the Tunbridge Wells Breast Cancer Group, quickly named "The Wellies"!

Some of these ladies had a vision to open a drop-in centre in Tunbridge Wells for all members of the community for cancer sufferers and their relatives, including children.

The centre is situated within the Homeopathic Hospital in Tunbridge Wells and with the help of many volunteers and kind donations, the rooms used have been furnished to provide a bright, airy, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.

Whilst they have been fortunate enough to obtain a grant from The Macmillan Cancer Relief charity, they need to continue to raise funds to provide the advice and support required in the community.
