Brighton boy enjoys Angels' experience

Tonbridge Angels had a fruitful Bank Holiday weekend, claiming a 3-1 home win in the FA Cup against Horsham on Saturday and then picking up three points in the league against Margate two days later, writes Jez Durrant.

The Ramsgate result means Tony Dolby's men are currently third in the Ryman League Division One table on seven points after three games behind Cray Wanderers and Dover Athletic, who are both unbeaten.

Player boss Dolby was happy with his side's two performances and told the Kent and Sussex Courier Newspaper: "It has been a good start to the season. Apart from the results I was pleased that we were able to change things around due to a few injuries and still do well. Horsham and Ramsgate were two totally different teams."

Goals from Brighton & Hove Albion loan player Lee Carey, Leroy Huggins and Dolby sealed Saturday's win while Huggins was on target again on Monday along with an own goal to take the points in the Kent derby.

Midfielder Carey has joined the Angels under the work experience deal between Tonbridge and the Coca Cola championship side.

Dolby was pleased with the newcomers display and was hopeful that other Brighton players could be used at the club.

He said: "Lee has come in and done really well. The midfield was bypassed a bit in the way we played on Monday but when he had the ball he used it well and I think he enjoyed the experience."

Dolby was able to recall tough tackling Danny Lye to the side on Monday following suspension and he hopes that utility player Darren Smith will also return to fitness this week.

During Monday's game Nick Barnes, who has started the season in great form, sustained a dislocated shoulder and will definitely miss tomorrow's trip to Dulwich Hamlet although goalkeeper Jerome John should be fit again following a hamstring injury.

Dolby said: "Darren Smith should return this week and could be available at the weekend. Nick Barnes has dislocated his shoulder.

"To lose any player is not easy but we hope that with the squad we have we can cope and not suffer as much as other teams."

Tonbridge will travel to Hastings United in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday, 10th September.
