Bromley progressed into the last four of the John Ullman Kent Senior Cup following a comfortable 2-1 victory over under-strength Dr Martens League Eastern Division leaders Tonbridge Angels at Hayes Lane  on Tuesday.

Bromley goalkeeper Danny Harwood visited hospital after the game where three stitches were inserted in his lower right arm following a challenge from livewire striker Ray Powell six minutes before the break left stud marks.

Harwood needed lengthy treatment on the pitch before continuing but the damage by Bromley had already been done.

The home side started brightly with Jason McKoy testing young goalkeeper Phil Hawkins before South African defender, Steve Potterill, still waiting to break his deadlock for Bromley, ballooned a long distance shot high above the crossbar.

Tonbridge player-manager, Hamid Barr's skill on the right hand side of the penalty area got the better of his marker Bobby George and carved an opportunity for  an unmarked Brendon Cass to head wide of the near post.

Stuart McIntyre's Ryman Leaguers deservedly took the lead after fourteen minutes.  Colin Luckett's pin-point free kick on the right found Adolph Amoako closely marked, but he fired low and quickly into the bottom left corner of the net from 12 yards.

Five minutes later, Gary Drewett threaded a pass for Amoako but Hawkins made a smart save blocking the shot after the goalkeeper, wearing a bright orange jersey, rushed off his line.

George had the ball in the net after 20 minutes but his five yard goal was disallowed for offside after McKoy's shot from outside the penalty area fell at the on-form striker's feet.

But George did however, double Bromley's lead eight minutes later.  George was running back from a central offside position so Mark Hammond played the ball through the Tonbridge defence down the left channel for Amoako to exploit his pace.  He did, and he reached the penalty area before squaring across the face of goal finding George inside the D.  George took the ball inside the penalty area before coolly despatching a shot inside the bottom left corner.

On the half hour mark, Powell's cross evaded Cass inside the penalty area but Craig Roser, stretching at the far post, failed to find the target.

Tonbridge pulled a goal back with nine minutes before the break.  The ball rebounded off Cass beating a rooted Harwood and the ball found the corner of Bromley's net.

After receiving treatment, Harwood got down low to Barr's low centre from the right before aggressive striker Powell ran across makeshift central defender Paul Kember which forced referee Mr Mason to brandishing a yellow card at the offender.

Barr's fiercely hit 25-yard free kick however, struck the wall and Mason blew for half-time.

Good link up play from Drewett and Potterill gave Drewett a superb chance to increase the lead but his shot was too close to Hawkins.

Bromley skipper, John Myatt received the ball from George and his fierce drive from 22 yards sailed over the Tonbridge crossbar.

Potterill was withdrawn from the action on the hour after he received news that his wife was taken into hospital expecting a baby.

Seventeen year old, youth team player, Edwin Mante came on to make his first team debut and the left sided player who represents Kent on a regular basis made a promising debut.

After a trademark penetrating Drewett run, the talented midfielder tried his luck from 28 yards. He tried to curl the shot into the top right hand corner and was ever so unlucky narrowly missing the target.

Tonbridge goalkeeper Hawkins was standing off his line but recovered well to push Colin Luckett's 22 yard free kick over the bar before the goalkeeper kept out Amoako's downward header two minutes later.

As Bromley changed formation to a 3-5-2, Tonbridge came at their hosts and created a couple of chances to force extra time on a cold Bromley night.

Keith Moore drilled a low shot wide of the left post following a scramble before Harwood got down well to save from Craig Roser.

Bromley substitute Paul Vines received the ball from a Nick Barnes error before unleashing a low shot which Hawkins saved.

Barnes fired over Harwood's bar from 22 yards before Cass drilled another good chance wide of the right post from 16 yards but the Angels couldn't find the killer touch and exited the competition.

Bromley are without a game on Saturday, but host local rivals Dulwich Hamlet at Hayes Lane on Tuesday 3rd February (7.45pm) in the London Senior Cup Quarter-Finals.  Bromley are holders of the trophy after beating Ford United 1-0 in the final at Dagenham & Redbridge last April.
