Beckenham make wise choice

DESPITE speculation over the future of Beckenham Town manager Kevin Sugrue, the Eden Park Avenue outfit have confirmed this week that the long serving manager will still be at the helm next season, writes Stephen McCartney.

However, the club have appointed former manager Bob Chilvers as his assistant, replacing Jason Taylor who has left the club to seek a manager's position elsewhere.

The club issued a statement, which said: "We believe that we have made a wise choice given all the circumstances."

Beckenham have received their best ever sponsorship payment from the Go Travel Kent League with the club picking up a cheque for £740 at the League's Presentation Dinner in Hollingbourne.

The payment was made up from the Premier Division (£100), leading scorers (£50), Division Two Cup winners (£400), third place behind Whitstable Town and Bromley in Division Two (£150) and monthly goalscorers (£40).

Meanwhile, under the ambitious "Building for the Future Plans" Beckenham have announced work on providing training facilities on the unused part of the ground starts on Tuesday.

The club are providing a second top class pitch on which their youth development plans can be implemented.

The cost of the works are not grant assisted.  This means the club cannot play home pre-season friendlies in the build up to their Kent League campaign, which gets underway on Saturday 13th August.
