A game too far for Borough

GREENWICH BOROUGH manager John Kasapi admitted trying to win their fifth league game on the spin was just one game too far for the improving Harrow Meadow outfit, writes Stephen McCartney.

Following Go Travel Kent League wins over Lordswood, Hythe Town, Beckenham Town and VCD Athletic, Kasapi was hoping victory over Matt Toms' Whitstable Town side would see them end 2004 with a bang going into Saturday's trip to Sporting Bengal United.

Things were going well for Borough, taking the lead after 26 minutes through an unmarked Errison Ehwan, powerfully headed home Peter Garland's free kick.

However, Sam Prett equalised nine minutes later and two goals in the last eleven minutes from Marcus Perona made sure the Eltham based club came away empty handed.

Kasapi said: "Extremely disappointed.  I fancied we were going to win that tonight.

"Got to give Whitstable credit really, they wanted to win it more than us.  They are a very organised team.

"I thought it was a very even first half but they probably shaded it in the second half.

"I can't grumble about the result really.  I think they deserved to win the game.

"I think they were up for it, I don't think we had the belief tonight that we could win another game.

"We won four, hoping to make it five, but it's not to be.

"I am not making any excuses but we had three players cry off with 'flu before the game, which didn't help.

"The boys are down but it's a case of making sure they are ready for Saturday."
