VCD move closer to home in Borough groundshare deal |
VCD
Athletic have agreed a groundshare deal with rivals Greenwich Borough, in
a bid to play their matches closer to home, writes Stephen McCartney. The Kentish Observer League side moved away from their Old Road ground in Crayford in 1998 when they entered a groundshare agreement to play at Thamesmead Town's ground in Bayliss Avenue. But they have played in Medway for the past two season's at Lordswood and Ford feels its time to move closer to their roots before they finally move back to Crayford in a year's time. "While Lordswood have treated us first class, the club felt it would be better for all concerned that we move closer to our home at Crayford," Ford said in a statement. "The players were finding it stressful to keep travelling to Lordswood." Ironically, Thamesmead Town are their first visitors for the opening game of the season, on Saturday 13th August, at Harrow Meadow in Eltham, and Ford is anticipating a big crowd for the fixture. |
