Brown's brace helps Lordswood Ladies secure opening home win

Lordswood Ladies' first home game in the South East Counties Women's League saw them beat Maidstone Mavrix by four goals to nil, writes Stephen McCartney.

After Maidstone Mavrix twice went close striking the crossbar in the opening twenty minutes, Lordswood took the lead after twenty five minutes when Ibuken Baku found the net following a goal mouth scramble following a corner kick.

Newcomer Carrie Strevens doubled Lordswood's lead after fourty four minutes when she slotted home after the ball had struck the crossbar.

A second half brace from Laura Brown, one from a free kick ten yards outside thepenalty area,  wrapped up the victory.

Lordswood manager Mick Fiorentini said: "I was impressed with this performance and especially the way the new players and the established team have blended together so smoothly and quickly."

Meanwhile, an inspired performance from Sarah Baker helped Lordswood's under fourteens draw Gillingham Girls 1-1.  Jessica Emmerson levelled for the Lords just before the break after Gills took an early lead.

Lordswood's Maidens under fourteen side played a friendly at Rochester City and a brace from Rachel Quested and a goal each from Stacey Shilston and Rebecca Barr gave Lordswood a 4-2 victory.

Zoeanne Pound and Stevie Parker had good chances against Castle Colts, but Lordwood's under eleven side lost 1-0 in a league match.
