Deal stuck in a jam
Lordswood 2-1 Deal Town
Wednesday 19 November 2003
Go Travel Kent League Premier Division
Summery from Darrell Harman
Kick off was delayed forty-five minutes due to traffic problems,
and the home side got off to a quick start and created many early chances
against strugglers Deal Town.
James Short twice went close for the home side early on before Deal goalkeeper
Sam Gibbons was forced off the pitch after a twenty-minute collision, and was
replaced by Jason Alltree.
Two minutes later, Alltree's poor clearance went straight to Glen Barlow, who
scored from a shot inside the penalty area.
It took Deal 37 minutes to create a chance on goal when Lee Marjaram shot across
the face of goal.
But the visitors levelled proceedings within two minutes of the second half when
Marjaram struck the post from a shot on the edge of the penalty area and Danny
Smith scored from the rebound.
Lordswood scored the winning goal after 67 minutes when Neil Crust's clearance
was picked up by Sean Hetterley, who fought off a Deal defender before crossing
towards the near post where Barlow stabbed home from six yards.
Alltree can be pleased with his performance in goal for Deal and he made a fine
save from Hetterley's header after Andy Freeman swung in a free kick with eleven
minutes remaining.
However, Deal's Dave Scott flicked an effort against the crossbar from a free
kick with three minutes left on the clock.
