Lordswood finally enjoy home comforts

Lordswood secured their first home victory for 22 matches with victory over the side that are languishing at the foot of the Kentish Observer League table - although this was probably the home side's worst performance of the season so far, writes Darrell Harman.

But they got off to a dream start when they took the lead after only 56 seconds.

A free kick on the edge of the penalty area was awarded and up stepped Andy Doerr to curl the ball into the top corner.

But the visitors - with only one point collected this season - got back into the game and they almost grabbed an equaliser when Sam Colyer's back pass went under goalkeeper Gavin Hopper's foot and roll towards goal but went just wide of the post and out for a corner.

And former Beckenham Town defender, Martin West almost scored for Sevenoaks, when in the 19th minute, he cut in from the right wing and his 20-yarder was parried by the former Chatham Town goalkeeper.

But Lordswood increased their lead against the run of play after 22 minutes when Doerr's free kick came back of the crossbar to Sean Hetterley, who used his chest to score from four yards.

Two minutes later Doerr picked up a loose ball and his shot from 25 yards beat the goalkeeper but his effort cannoned back into play off the post.

West had another chance to score in the 27th minute when he headed over the bar whilst left unmarked following a corner and three minutes later, tall defender Dominic Websdale tested the Lordswood goalkeeper.

Lordswood scored again in the 35th minute when Bob Chiverton's free kick was met by Andy Forster who headed home.

And the Medway side signed off with another goal in the 42nd minute when another free kick was floated to the far post, which was headed across goal by Hetterley for Will Richards to head home.

Battered Sevenoaks, however, came out for the second half with only pride to play for and almost scored when stalwart Dave Forster hooked wide of the far post.

And on the hour mark, Kris Hollidge, whose played Ryman League football for Bromley and Croydon, found himself free inside the area but shot wide.

Chiverton blotted Lordswood's copy book after 65 minutes when he was sent off for his second booking, but unbeaten Lords are now fourth in the table behind Beckenham Town, Maidstone United and Thamesmead Town and host league leaders Beckenham Town next Saturday in a game that will test their credentials.
