Lordswood climbed to fifth in the Kentish Observer League table with an ordinary performance against Tunbridge Wells, who would probably think they should have got at least a point from the game, writes Darrell Harman.

Tunbridge Wells' striker Dave Hassett had the game's first chance after 17 minutes when he headed wide.

The Medway side's first chance came ten minutes later when Andy Skinner's long throw into the area was met by Sam Colyer's header, which was saved by former Ashford Town stopper John Whitehouse.

At the other end, Lordswood goalkeeper Gavin Hopper denied Steve Ward and Hassett late in the first half.

And Lordswood went close when Andy Doerr latched onto Steve Sharp's long ball but his audacious chip from 30-yards dipped just over.

Lordswood scored the only goal of the game in the 55th minute.  Skinner's long throw found Colyer and his flicked header beat the goalkeeper to find the back of the net.

Two minutes later, Skinner's long throw found Doerr, who raced from the halfway line and into the penalty area but his shot was blocked by Whitehouse.

That was the home side's last chance as it was backs to the wall with some brilliant defending to secure their fifth league win of the season.

On the hour mark, Steve Ward received the ball on the right, cut inside and saw his shot flash across the goal and in the 74th minute a long ball forward forced Lordswood debutant Luke Payne to deflect the ball towards goal but Hopper acrobatically tipped the ball over the bar.

The visitors last chance came with 12 minutes remaining when Clayton Cooper headed wide following a free kick into the penalty area.

Lordswood, however, march on and although this wasn't one of their better displays, it shows how far they've come this season.  Their next game is at Erith & Belvedere on Saturday, 3rd December.
