Tydeman misses trip to Broxbourne

Maidstone United coach Alan Walker wasn't happy with his side following their 2-2 draw with Broxbourne Borough V&E at Bourne Park on Saturday.

But the Stones won't have too far to travel in the national stages (fourth round) of the FA Vase, should they win Tuesday night's replay, as a trip to Kentish Observer League rivals VCD Athletic awaits them on 21st January.

And Walker admitted in an interview with www.maidstoneunited.co.uk that Saturday's performance was the worst he had seen from the squad this season.

"I felt very disappointed after the game on Saturday," he said. Lloyd (Hume) and myself had warned them this would be a tough game, but they went out thinking this would be an easy win.

"They won't be thinking that on Tuesday and I also don't think we'll play that bad again.

"I don't think matters helped with Sam Tydeman getting injured so early on and despite giving his all, (Lyndon) Rowland had been really ill with a stomach bug that morning and could only last 45 minutes.

"The other disappointment was the two sloppy goals we gave away, the second coming from a keepers clearance. These were simple errors and we hope that they won't happen again.

"The positive thought is that we have another crack at winning Tuesday night the players know they will have to work for the win this time around."

Walker will be without Tydeman for their trip to Goffs Lane, Cheshunt, but Walker remained positive.

"I have no doubt Jason Barton will fill in for Sam very well, he's put in some excellent performances since returning, including Saturday when we brought him on for Nick who was struggling.

"We'll also have a fully fit Lyndon Rowland Tuesday night and he's really up for making amends for Saturday. The only other doubt is Jimmy Strouts who has a sore neck."

Finally commenting on the rather unusual step taken by Strouts when he insisted on taking the penalty on Saturday Walker said: "It was a shock for us too when Jimmy took the ball from Mo (Takaloo).

"I know no-one gives more to this club than Jimmy Strouts and he was obviously confident that he could score, but despite missing he was able to make amends a few seconds later (scoring the Stones' second goal).

"It has now been explained to him that this will not happen again and Mo will continue to take the penalties."

Hythe Town were drawn at home to Winchester City, following their win over Chalfont St Peter on Saturday.
