Summers brace fires Ramsgate home
Ramsgate 3 Deal Town 1
MUSH Kent Youth League Under 18 (South)
Sunday 12th October 2003
Match report by John Vahid, Ramsgate FC
Ramsgate under strength side sweep aside Deal Town like the wind
across southwood.
Ramsgate Under 18s' showing many forced chances, completed outplayed their near
neighbours Deal Town at Southwood Stadium on Sunday morning.
Ramsgate dominated the first half and the only surprise was that Ramsgate scored
only once. In the 12th minute BILLY SUMMERS latched on to a through ball from
midfield dynamo Captain Billy Grainger to slot the ball pass the out coming
keeper.
On twenty minutes Ramsgate were denied a clear cut penalty when forward Kenny
Pratt was up-ended in the box.
As Half time approached the Deal goalkeeper made a string of fine saves to stop
the home side increasing its lead.
With only 3 minutes of the second half gone Ramsgate doubled there lead when
Goal Keeper Shaun Moore's long punt up field found forward BILLY SUMMERS who
needed no second touch. The next time the Deal Keeper touched the ball was to
collect it from the back of the net.
With a two goal lead, Ramsgate sat back, and within 2 minutes Deal had reduced
the deficit to 2-1. To the home sides credit they raised their game only to be
denied by the Referee again when second penalty was turned down. With 12 minutes
remaining right-back CLAYTON BARNETT surge down the right wing and let loose a
long looping shot from just about the half-way line that bounced once in front
of the Deal Keeper over his head and into the empty net.
Although the Manager was pleased with the result, particularly with a weaken
team, he knows his team will need the raise their game over the next few weeks
when we entertain much stronger teams from north kent.
