A
typical end of season match where no promotion or relegation worries for either
side left a pretty much non event of a game.
Ramsgate started lively enough but
were unable to carve many clear cut chances, Robinson and Takaloo being
consistently caught in the off side trap, as was the case in the 14th
minute when Robinson got the ball into the Beckenham net but was adjudged to
have strayed past the last defender.
Beckenham’s
use of the long ball paid dividends for them in the 24th minute,
Parkes latching onto a
clearance from West and placed his shot wide of Twyman in the Ramsgate
goal. Ramsgate pressed hard for the equaliser and kept Beckenham camped In their
own half for long spells. But real chances were still few and far between and
The Rams were still trailing at the half time interval.
Early
in the second half, while the majority of the crowd were still watching the
final furlongs of the Grand National, and who could blame them there was
definitely more passion at Aintree, Takaloo met a fine cross from the left with
a diving header that left the Beckenham keeper stranded and gave the Rams a
deserved equaliser.
Neither side could make the extra bit of effort required to take all the points in this encounter, and the Rams with 9 wins, 9 draws and 9 defeats this season find themselves in 9th position in the league, with five games to play. The next three are all at Southwood, starting with Thamesmead on Tuesday 6th at 7:45pm, VCD on the 10th and Maidstone on 12th both with 3pm kick offs. The final two games are away at Deal (17th) and Greenwich Borough (24th).
