Miles reunited with Malin ahead of home Vase tie

Slade Green boss Phil Miles will be reunited with co-manager Terry Malin for this Saturday’s FA Vase Second Qualifying Round tie against Sussex County League outfit East Preston at The Small Glen, writes Stephen McCartney.

Up until now Miles has been in temporary charge of Green’s reserve team following the summer resignation of Jeff Ives and Steve Kemp and during this time he has steered Green’s second string to second place behind Folkestone in the Division Two table (the two sides meet this Saturday).

Miles' welcome return to the first team dugout comes as a result of the recent appointment of Wayne Baldacchino as the new second team boss.

Miles and Malin will be demanding a more disciplined defensive display for Saturday’s Vase tie following the calamity defending that gifted Sporting Bengal with a last minute equaliser in last weekend's 2-2 draw.

A furious Malin told the club's website: "We should have had the game sewn up by then following a hatful of missed chances, but even at 2-1 we looked in control and unlikely to concede.

"There is no excuse for the goal we let in, the result was a big blow as a win would have taken us into the top six instead we remain in mid table".

East Preston arrive at The Small Glen on Saturday currently occupying 13th place in the Badgers Ale Sussex County League Division One having picked up two wins from their opening seven games.

They have already tasted success in this season's Vase competition with a 4-1 win over Redhill (currently bottom of the Sussex League) in the first qualifying round a fortnight ago.
