Slade Green take positives out of Tilbury defeat
PHIL MILES, director of football at Go Travel Kent League club
Slade Green, remained upbeat despite his team's 2-1 defeat at home to Southern
League Division One East outfit Tilbury on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.
He
said: "Physically we looked very strong out there and their were many
positives to come from the game.
"We tried some different techniques operating certain players in different
positions to give us alternatives for the future.
"Some of this worked and some didn't. I can confidently say there
were more positives than negatives to come out of the match."
Two own-goals condemned Miles' side to the defeat. They fell behind on 15
minutes when Ryan Hayes, a new signing from Thamesmead Town sliced the ball into
his own net.
Slade Green, however, could have been level by the break. Chris Tuley saw
his effort saved by the Tilbury goalkeeper, having been left in a one-on-one
situation with the stopper. Dean Bowey had a goal disallowed for offside.
The Small Glen outfit, however, leveled the scores midway through the second
half as Shaun Malyon grabbed his second goal in as many games only to see his
side once again shoot themselves in the foot in the very last minute when Luke
Robinson, a trialist from Conference boys Gravesend & Northfleet guided the
ball past his own goalkeeper.
