Vines' is Slade Green hero in Cup stalemate
Slade
Green face an FA Cup replay in Berkshire on Tuesday night after playing out a
0-0 draw with Reading Town in Saturday’s Extra Preliminary Round tie.
Reading were one of just four sides to take points of AFC Wimbledon last season
and are many peoples favourites to win the Seagrave Haulage Combined Combined
Counties League side this season, following their third place finish last term.
There was little between the two sides, however, it was Green keeper Paul Vines
who emerged the hero of the day with a superb penalty save 15 minutes from time
after Darren Upson had handled in the area.
For the second successive week Green were guilty of an array of missed chances
with Danny Little, Chris Arnold and Ryan Hayes all going close, while Shaun
Malyon was desperately unlucky with a spectacular goalbound strike that was
tipped over the bar by the keeper.
The winners of Tuesday’s replay will travel to Southern League Division One
East outfit Chatham Town next Saturday in the Preliminary Round.
Green:
Vines, Barber, Sabatino, Gallagher, Upson, Little, Malyon, Barrett, Arnold
(Weir), Bowey, Hayes. Other subs: Robinson, Morgan, Carke, Pearce.
