VCD look for Power to blow out Wick

VCD ATHLETIC manager Martin Ford takes his side to Sussex County League side Wick in an re-arranged FA Vase first round tie tonight and victory will see them travel to Gosport Borough in the next round, writes Stephen McCartney.

Their chances, however, have been boosted with the capture of former Thamesmead Town striker Michael Power, who has joined on loan from Ryman Leaguers Cray Wanderers.

Ford, whose side are currently in fifth place in the Go Travel Kent League table, and entertain Sporting Bengal United at North Dane Way on Saturday, said: "I have been busy adding to our squad over the past few weeks, with the notable signing of Michael Power, the former Thamesmead striker, joining us from Cray Wanderers, together with a couple of fresh faces.

"We are under no illusions that this season will again be a close affair with the likes of Maidstone, Whitstable and Ramsgate pushing us all the way."

Ford, is looking forward to the game at Wick.

"Wick are no strangers to us, we met them a couple of seasons ago in the FA Vase and after a 0-0 draw at their ground we managed to defeat them 1-0 at our old ground, Thamesmead.

"With a £700 prize at stake also, it is a game that we must strive to win and a competition that as a manager I am keen to do well in."
