Ford: We're enjoying our football

Martin Ford is delighted with his side's unbeaten spell during November, and takes his side to Deal Town tomorrow looking to maintain their good form, writes Stephen McCartney.

Two very good cup wins against Maidstone United and Hythe Town in the past week have completed a very good week for the club, having won five matches from six outings.

"I realise that going a month unbeaten does not win you any medals but nevertheless we are going in the right direction," a delighted Ford told www.vcd-athletic.co.uk.

"The winning habit also makes the next lot of league and cup games that much worthwhile for the players.

"Training becomes that much more enjoyable, players make a bigger effort to keep fit and generally everyone around the club is a lot happier."

Speaking about their two recent cup wins, Ford said: "They were both first class for very much different reasons.

"The win at Maidstone was another example of how much better organised we are this season than last"

Speaking about their 2-0 win at Bourne Park, the VCD stalwart added: "Maidstone rested a few and we were without four of the side that played the previous Saturday in the FA Vase.

"Nevertheless, the lads that came into the side done very well and proved once more what a good squad we now have.

"Once you have dealt with the very direct play from the Stones you always have a chance to hurt them on the floor. We did this to the letter and with the lads defending well when we had to we took first blood in the first of four fixtures against the old enemy this season."

And a big crowd witnessed VCD Athletic thrash Hythe Town 5-1 to progress into the next round of the Kent Senior Trophy.

"The matter in which we won, playing good controlled passing football was a joy to watch," said Ford. "Although Hythe had their moments there was only going to be one winner on the day.

"Thankfully that was us so it was nice that we could show our crowd how we are playing at the moment."

Ford takes his side to Deal Town tomorrow, expecting a "tough game". He said: "Without a midweek game it's given us more time to regroup in training and get prepared for what will be a very difficult game.

"This is the first of three trips we have to make to Deal, having to play them in the League Cup and again in the Kent Senior Trophy.

"So by the time we have finished with them we will be sick of the sight of them."

Ford, however, admitted he has "a lot of respect" for former County League rivals Sevenoaks Town, after John Adams' resigned from his post as first team manager, 42 days after replacing Gary Davies at the helm at Greatness Park.

"Sevenoaks are a smashing little club and one I have got a lot of respect for," Ford said. "Like us they have worked hard to get in the Kent League. They must remember also that "Rome wasn't built in a day".
