VCD will be amongst it again
VCD ATHLETIC boss Martin Ford insists his club won't be paying
out money to players next season - because they don't have any to spend, writes
Stephen McCartney.
With notable transfers concerning Kent League clubs being made last week, Ford
is waiting for the right players with the right mentality to become available to
strengthen his side.
"Most clubs at the moment in the Kent League like ourselves will be sitting
back hoping the right players become available to fit into our sides," Ford
told the club's website.
"Like us, they will also be hoping that these players do not expect any
money but want to play for the club.
"Sadly these players are now becoming very hard to find at the start of the
season. Most players go to clubs at this stage of the season only for
money so the rest of us have to be patient and keep our ears to the ground
hoping that things don't work out in one way or another in able to attract
players after the season has started."
So what Ford and his club - that groundshare Lordswood's ground - offer
potential new signings?
On the day former Vickers striker Jon Maine has signed for Ryman League division
one side Cray Wanderers, Ford added: "Thankfully with no budget to work
with this season I will not have my usual problem of outbidding clubs to sign
players.
"At VCD we can only promise players a well run club with plenty to look
forward to with our return home in 2006-07."
With his club not paying any money to its players, Ford is confident his side
can be still be there or thereabouts, having finished joint fifth in the Kent
League last term.
"I have now become accustomed to signing players for no money so I do not
see this season being any header than most.
"My side once more will be amongst it again come the end of the season - I
can assure you of that."
