Soccer Shorts: Erith Town unveil Adam Woodward as their new manager

ERITH TOWN have unveiled that Adam Woodward is their new manager.

 

Woodward guided Glebe to the Southern Counties East Football League First Division title in his only season in charge of the Chislehurst based club.

Erith Town parted company with Ian Jenkins and his assistant manager Ricky Bennett after the pair completed their Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division in the bottom four, having collected 31 points from their 38 games.

The Dockers finished three points clear of the relegation zone, which was occupied by Fisher and wooden spoonists Erith & Belvedere and Jenkins’ last game in charge of the club was their embarrassing 10-1 defeat away to Fisher on the last day of the season.

An Erith Town statement said: “Erith Town Football Club are delighted to announce that Adam Woodward will be the new first team manager for the forthcoming season.

“Adam will be joined by Timmy Warden as assistant manager.

“The club are delighted to welcome both Adam and Tim to The Dockers.”

Meanwhile, the pair will not have Sam Long with them at Oakwood next season as he has signed for Isthmian League Division One South newcomers Ashford United as a player.

The versatile Long has played for Charlton Athletic, Chelmsford City, Dover Athletic, Margate and Bromley and formed part of Woodward’s management team at Glebe last season.

“I am delighted to sign Sam this season as I know he will improve our squad,” said Ashford United boss Danny Lye.

“Sam has plenty of experience playing at a higher level and will add experience and quality to our squad.”

Lye told www.ashfordunitedfc.com: “There will be more confirmation of new signings in the next few days along with new deals for the championship winning players.”

Herne Bay have appointed Jermaine Darlington and John Emburey as joint-managers after Sam Denly left the Isthmian League Division One South at the end of last season.

Glebe, meanwhile, have not found Woodward’s successor but First Division side Holmesdale have appointed Lee Roots to join Ian Varley’s management team at Oakley Road.

Roots resigned as the manager of Andreas Carter Joma Kent County League Division One West side Chipstead less than 24 hours of his return to his former club.

“I’m very pleased to announce my appointment to the Holmesdale first team management team.  Looking forward to getting started and down to work,” said Roots.
