Abbott concentrates on the league
Thursday 08th October 2009
SITTINGBOURNE boss Gary Abbott says his side must collect six points before they can look forward to hosting Dartford in the FA Trophy, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Brickies booked a lucrative first qualifying round showdown against the Darts, which takes place at Bourne Park on 17th October, but Abbott says his side must take maximum points from Horsham YMCA and Ramsgate (at home next Tuesday) before they concentrate on playing Tony Burman’s runaway Ryman Premier League leaders.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s trip to Horsham YMCA, Abbott, who was speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk following his side’s 2-1 Trophy replay win after two hours at Wingate & Finchley on Tuesday night, said, “Obviously the league is more important to us, we want to get into the play-off’s so Saturday is just as important as it was tonight, to get three points.
With his side now in the bottom six in the Ryman League Division One South table, Abbott continued, “It’s all about getting the points on Saturday. Horsham on Saturday is a big game for us, so yes we want three points and then we got Ramsgate on Tuesday, which is even bigger so in 72 hours it would be nice to finish up on Tuesday with six points.”
