We have nothing to lose so will be going there to have a real go at them, says AFC Croydon Athletic boss Antony Williams
AFC CROYDON ATHLETIC manager Antony Williams says his side are capable of beating league leaders Hollands & Blair tomorrow.
The Rams travel to Gillingham sitting in eighth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League table on 28 points from 22 games and suffered a 4-3 home defeat to Cray Valley last weekend.
“Massively disappointed with our first half last week,” said Williams.
“The lads played like all they needed to do was turn up. No game of football is ever like that. You must earn the right to play every time you cross that line.
“To be fair to Cray Valley, they took their goals very well and dominated especially the last 30 minutes of the first half.
“At half-time we got stuck into our lads and set up a game plan to have a go and made some changes.
“We started very bright and I felt we would score.
“Losing Jordan Martin through ill-discipline again is a massive blow but he will learn.
“We got back to 3-2 and I honestly felt even with the 10 men we would get something out of the game.
“Their fourth goal was a bit lucky but it won them the game.
“Despite our third goal it was too late. Based on our first half performance no complaints from me with the outcome.”
Hollands & Blair are four points clear of Greenwich Borough (who have a game in hand) at the top of the table, in their dream debut season.
Williams said: It’s a fixture I would love to play in. We went there before and beat them but we’re well beaten when they visited us. They have had two draws and know Greenwich are hot on their heels now.
“We have nothing to lose so will be going there to have a real go at them.
“We’re not expected to win so my lads can go and express themselves and we can be positive in our play.
“On our day we’re capable of being anyone in this league. It should be a cracking game.”
