We will have a go at staying in the competition a little bit longer and hopefully we can end the week on a high, says AFC Croydon Athletic boss Kevin Rayner
AFC CROYDON Athletic boss Kevin Rayner says his side are in good form going into tomorrow’s FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie at AFC Uckfield Town.
The Rams are unbeaten in their opening nine games in league and cup this season and go into the game full of confidence, sitting in third-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division with 13 points from five games, a couple of points behind leaders Beckenham Town, who have won five out of five.
AFC Uckfield Town, whose manager is former Tonbridge Angels midfielder Anthony Storey, have knocked Hollands & Blair and Glebe out of The FA Cup this season and sit in sixth-place in the Southern Combination Premier Division table – the same level as Rayner’s side – with two wins and two draws from five league games.
“The FA Cup game is great for the players and the club. It’s a bit of history as we now reach the First Qualifying Round for the first time as do our opponents AFC Uckfield,” said Rayner.
“We travel away and are in good form. AFC Uckfield are also in a rich vein of form and have knocked out two sides from our league already and are also on a great unbeaten run and full of confidence.
“We know it will be a tough game and both sides will be thinking they can win the tie.
“We will have a go at staying in the competition a little bit longer and hopefully we can end the week on a high following two good cup victories on Saturday and Tuesday.
“The players have all worked hard for each other this season and I’m sure Saturday will be no different.”
Both club’s have banked £5,140 in prize money at present and there’s a further £6,000 up for grabs in this round.
