AFC CROYDON ATHLETIC manager Kevin Rayner says he has been impressed with his side’s performances over the last month.

The Rams have sealed three wins on the spin, not including the abandoned 3-1 home win over Fisher, which the London Football Association confirmed today that there was no charges brought to any of Rayner’s players, after their opponents claimed they were subject to alleged racist abuse.

AFC Croydon Athletic have beaten Erith Town (2-0); Erith & Belvedere (4-2) and Welling Town (2-0) and will be looking to extend that run when bottom-of-the-table Greenwich Borough visit Mayfield Stadium tomorrow.

Rayner’s men have climbed up to fourteenth-place in the Sea Pioneer Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 23 points from their 18 league games, while Greenwich Borough have lost their last two games and are rooted to the foot of the table with 12 points from their 19 league outings.

“Our performances have improved over the last month and we have now recorded four wins on the spin,” said Rayner.

“We know we have a good squad and we are now playing well as a team and showing the form that I expected but it just wasn’t happening.

“We are probably the last team to beat Corinthian and that was no fluke but we struggled to get any consistency and we now have that.

“The players' hard work and confidence mean we are now beginning to get the results we deserve.

“We are playing with a lot of belief and last week at Welling Town we scored two great goals and then we had to defend and we did it well and ran out deserved winners.”

Ben Kotey’s Greenwich Borough are three points adrift of the side immediately above them in the table, Crowborough Athletic, the East Sussex side have played three more games.

“We all know that anyone can beat anyone in this league and if you drop off or you’re not at it, you will get beat,” warned Rayner.

“Greenwich will be aware that a win or two can reel in a number of teams and they will be thinking they can get something. We will need to be at our best to get something from the game and extend our unbeaten run.

“We are working harder as a group and there is a good squad buzz at the minute, which has seen us playing well.”

Rayner is looking forward to Tuesday night’s home game against his former club, Guildford City, who visit Mayfield Stadium in the Second Round of the Surrey Senior Cup.

“It will be good to welcome a few old friends in what should be a tight game and one in which both teams will think they have a good chance of progressing,” added Rayner.

“We would like to still be in a cup competition next month, so we’ll certainly be giving it a good go to stay in the cup competitions.”
