MILTON & FULSTON UNITED manager Aaron Perry says it will be a massive achievement if his side to finish in the top six this season. The Haart of Kent County League Division One club pulled off a shock 3-0 win over Sittingbourne at Bourne Park in midweek, courtesy of goals from Sam Hobbs, Zac Thomas and Karl Barron.
Sittingbourne who are now jointly-managed by Jim and Danny Ward, play four levels higher than Perry’s side.
Perry said: “Our pre-season is well under way. Tuesday night’s game against Sittingbourne allowed me to use seventeen players and has now made my job even harder as we had seven players missing and after people’s performances on Tuesday night already shows the quality we have within our squad.
“A lot of people have taken note of the result, but for us it was just a pre-season game and we won’t be reading too much into the result.
“A few people have said to me after Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Sittingbourne that we would be the favourites to win our league. We don’t see it like that at all. Our aim is to finish in the top six. Anything higher will be a massive achievement.
“Our priority was our performance and get people’s fitness up.”
Milton & Fulston United are next in action at Kennington next Wednesday, followed by another game, at Borden Village 24-hours later.
Perry said: “We will make more changes allowing us to look at more players and different shapes.
“Our target is 25 August because this is when results start to matter.”
Meanwhile, Sittingbourne, who have been drawn away to former tenants Maidstone United in the second round of the Ryman League Cup, have announced some bad news for Simon Pettit, who signed for the club from Ramsgate in the close season and was instantly made captain.
A club statement, which was published on www.sittingbournefc.co.uk, said: “Sittingbourne have been delivered a huge blow before the season has begun with the news that captain Simon Pettit is out for the season after suffering an injury in the friendly against Milton & Fulston.
“Simon - who was taken to hospital by car - had an MRI scan that identified a severed Achilles tendon and he now has to have an operation on Saturday. We wish Simon a speedy recovery.”
