Applicants for Chatham vacancy have been "remarkably high"

CHATHAM TOWN look set to unveil the identity of their new manager within the next couple of weeks, writes Stephen McCartney.
The club are currently in limbo after rookie manager Alex O’Brien - and his assistant Lew Watts - parted company with the club after just one season in charge earlier in the month.
Last summer, Chatham were tipped by many to be one of the dark horses to clinch a play-off spot in Ryman League Division One South, considering the players that O’Brien had persuaded to sign for the club, signing some of his former team mates at Dartford.
But a loss of training facilities around Christmas saw results take a nose dive and the club finished the campaign in a disappointing sixth-from-bottom.
In 22 games with training facilities, Chatham collected 30 points, but following the loss of their training base, the side collected only 16 points from their remaining 20 games.
A club statement said: “The latest on the club’s search for a new manager is that after giving all applications due consideration, the club has formed a short list to replace Alex O’Brien, who resigned earlier this month.
“It is hoped that an announcement to confirm the new first team manager can be made in the next couple of weeks.
“The club would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who applied for the job - the standard off CV received was remarkably high.”
