Ashby tells his defence to shape up

Monday 06th October 2008

MARGATE boss Barry Ashby couldn’t hide his sense of disappointment and frustration after his side lost to fellow strugglers Hastings United 3-2 at Hartsdown Park on Saturday.

The defeat leaves the troubled Thanet club in the relegation zone with two wins and three draws from eleven games and relegation into the Ryman League Division One South is a possibility if they continue to gift goals to their opponents.

“We’ve got a young team, we’ve got enough games and enough training to start understand things,” Ashby told www.margate-fc.com.

“It doesn’t matter what level you play at, if you give teams chances like we’re giving them, I mean it’s ridiculous.

“Yes, we created loads of chances, we missed loads of chances. The positive to take out of (the game) is we created chances. But you can’t conceded three goals like we conceded today, it’s just ridiculous.”

Ashby takes his beleaguered side to Princes Park next Saturday (11th October) to play a Dartford side that are unbeaten in four league games, winning their last three.
