Ashford give Homelands a face-lift
The chairman of Ashford Town, Mark Jenner, has spoken about the ground improvements currently taking place at The Homelands, writes Stephen McCartney.
Mr Jenner and his new board have appointed Dover Athletic’s former management team and Clive Walker and Steve Nolan have already brought in three new players from their former club.
Creative midfielder, and Dover’s skipper, Lee Spiller, 29, defender Nick Humphrey and right-back Tony Browne have all made the switch from Crabble.
But instead of this transfer news appearing on the club’s main website, pictures of the ground improvements currently taking place took centre stage - but Mr Jenner explained what’s going on at the resurgent club.
“The trenches and pipes are for the new irrigation system,” he told www.ashfordtownfc.co.uk.
“The black pipe has been moled down each touchline and behind the goals and through the centre of the pitch.
“A concrete base is bring made outside the ground for a water tank and pump house, which will feed the system.
“Sprinkler heads will pop up automatically and cover the whole pitch. The tank is refilled from the mains and from the drainage system by means of a pump.
“Treatment of the pitch with seeding and 80 tonnes of top dressing is scheduled for next week, which should give us a much better (playing) surface for next season.
“The seats are all out and the brick work repaired awaiting some painting. The new seats should arrive in a couple of weeks. The improvements to the roof should be completed this week, which when finished will give a much better look to the main stand.
“Other works outside the ground and the internal refurbishment will also be starting shortly."
