Avery makes Chatham move permanent
CHATHAM TOWN boss Steve Binks has today unveiled the signing of central defender Richard Avery following his release from neighbouring Dartford, writes Stephen McCartney.
The highly-rated central defender, whose appearances for the Darts were limited last season, enjoyed a loan spell at Maidstone Road towards the end of last season and Binks is delighted to have signed the player permanently.
“Richard Avery performed brilliantly on loan from Dartford last season,” Binks told www.chathamtownfc.net.
“I think he will be a fantastic acquisition for next season and would like to welcome him to the club.
“Furthermore, I’m really pleased that a number of players from last year’s squad have also re-signed, who are Chris Tedder, Justin Ascheri, Craig Govey, Tom Staff, Lewis Craddock and Michael Scott.
“I believe that we have a very young squad coming together with a good blend of experience and youth and strong competition for places.”
Binks also announced that he’s brought a new goalkeeper coach to the Ryman League Division One North club.
Barry Bell has been coaching privately for over five years and recently started Pro-Keeper Coaching Schools.
His previous experience includes coaching at Charlton Athletic’s Satellite Coaching Centre and at Dartford, where he was responsible for coaching the keepers in the youth team and Kent County League side Phoenix Sports.
Binks added: “I am really pleased about Barry joining the club and again think he will be a great acquisition in the future development of our goalkeepers.”
Binks had recently signed former Dartford goalkeeper James Tedder from Kent League runners-up VCD Athletic.
