Beating Benfica was just amazing, says Sevenoaks Town coach Micky Hazard

SEVENOAKS TOWN have pulled off their biggest giant killing act by beating Portuguese giants Benfica.



The club’s under 18 side, managed by former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea star Micky Hazard, 53, defeated their more illustrious opponents 3-2 at the end of their four-day Easter tour.

Freddie Barrett scored twice and Harry Dobson got the other in a famous win for the Kent club.

Hazard said: “Amazing result, they should be so very proud of themselves.  They have come an unbelievable long way, it is just amazing.  The boys were brilliant. I am so proud of them.”

The teams were level at 2-2 at half-time, with Benfica fielding an entirely different 11 in the second half.

Physio Emily Sawyer who made the trip also told the club’s website: “The boys were awesome on and off the pitch.  They did themselves and the club proud.”

Meanwhile, Simon Jones’ first team welcome FA Carlsberg Vase and Wembley bound Tunbridge Wells to Greatness Park tonight in a Kent Hurlimann Football League fixture.

The Oakes are rooted to the foot of the table with three wins and a draw from 26 games. Martin Larkin’s side can climb up to fifth place in the table with victory in the local derby.
