We are in a very good position in the league at this stage of the season and it is a position where we can push on from in the Near Year, which we will strive to do, vows Beckenham Town assistant manager Billy Walton
BECKENHAM TOWN assistant manager Billy Walton says his side can improve their game during the second part of the season.
The club are in second-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 42 points on the board from their 20 league outings.
They are a point behind their bitter-rivals Fisher, who do have a game in hand, while Corinthian, who come to Eden Park Avenue on Saturday, are in third-place on 38 points and Michael Golding’s men do have a couple of games in hand.
Beckenham Town have a far greater budget than Fisher and Corinthian put together and the heat is going to be cranked up as the title race enters its crucial part of the season.
After a shock 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Canterbury City on Wednesday 5 December, Beckenham Town have bounced back by winning 3-2 at Crowborough Athletic and beating Deal Town 2-1 at Eden Park Avenue last weekend.
“We go into the Corinthian game on the back of a very good performance against a very good Deal Town team,” said Walton.
“We know all about Corinthian, they are a very strong team, very quick and with a very good manager.
“We will give them all the respect they deserve as they were the first team to beat us this season back in October.
“We are playing well but we can improve in all aspects of our game and I’m sure we will do that over the coming months and in the season half of the season.
“It would be good to finish the year with two victories but it will be difficult.”
Walton has yet claimed a league title at this level and is keen to put that right this season,
“We are in a very good position in the league at this stage of the season. It is a position where we can push on from in the Near Year, which we will strive to do,” added Walton.
“Hopefully we have learnt from our experience of last season, which should keep us in good stead for the remainder of this season but it is very exciting at the top and I think it will go all the way to the last day.
“We don’t need other teams to put pressure on us as we will put pressure on ourselves to perform at the highest level we can week-in-week-out and for me the bigger the game and the bigger the pressure the better you play and go and enjoy being in a title race.
“For me it is something I enjoy with no pressure. It is my passion and my hobby.”
Walton had this Christmas message for the Eden Park Avenue faithful.
“We would like to take this opportunity in thanking all our supporters for coming week-in-week-out and your support makes all the difference. I hope the boys can give you something to cheer about on Saturday. Merry Christmas!”
