Sheppey are a very good side, someone said to me, they’re the favourites to go up, so we’ll go there with our tails up, full of confidence, like we did last year. We went there full of confidence and we got beat 4-1, says Beckenham Town's Billy Walton
BECKENHAM TOWN assistant manager Billy Walton says he wants his side to give a good account of theirselves at Sheppey United tomorrow.
Jason Huntley’s men inflicted Tunbridge Wells’ first league defeat of the season by comfortably winning 3-0 at Eden Park Avenue on Tuesday night, courtesy of two goals from striker Tunde Aderonmu and substitute striker Steven Townsend.
Chatham Town - who have just appointed former Rochester United boss Lee Garlinge as their new reserve team manager - rose to the summit of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table following their 7-2 win at Canterbury City on Wednesday night.
Scott Lindsey’s side are level on 24 points with Corinthian, who have also played nine games.
Tunbridge Wells are now in third-place with 23 points from 10 games, while Sheppey United sit in fourth-place with 22 points from eight games and Beckenham Town follow in fifth-place with 21 points from 11 games and Hollands & Blair are the next side in the pecking order with 18 points from nine outings.
“No matter who you play, it’s hard, hard games. Last Saturday against Punjab, it was a 50-50 game for 20 minutes,” said Walton.
“We go to Sheppey, they’ve done a number on us last season, if we go and play like we did on Tuesday night and like we did on Saturday (beating Punjab 7-0) and against Erith Town, certain aspects of the Chatham game, we’ll go there and give a good account of ourselves and that’s all I’m going to ask for, just go out there and give a good account of ourselves and work hard.
“Sheppey are a very good side, someone said to me, they’re the favourites to go up, so we’ll go there with our tails up, full of confidence, like we did last year. We went there full of confidence and we got beat 4-1.
“They’ve got a lot of threats Sheppey, we’ve just got to go there and do the right things and stick to our game plan.
“I’m sure if we work as hard as we did on Tuesday, try our best and get a result and I’m sure it will be a good game. I say to everyone get down there and watch a good game of football because both of us will try and play and I think that on the day whoever puts away their chances and whoever attacks both ends the better, we’ll win the game.”
Sheppey United’s chairman Matthew Smith has confirmed that tomorrow’s game is an all-ticket sell-out and no-one should travel to the game without a ticket.
Ernie Batten’s side inflicted Corinthian’s first league defeat of the season last weekend, by scoring two injury-time goals to seal a 4-3 win at Gay Dawn Farm.
