I want this squad to achieve something special this season and hopefully we can, says Beckenham Town assistant Billy Walton
BECKENHAM TOWN assistant manager Billy Walton says his side are relishing their rare underdog tag when they host Brentford B at Eden Park Avenue tonight.
Brentford reached the London Senior Cup Final last season where they lost 1-0 to Steve King’s Welling United at Wingate & Finchley on Tuesday 9 April 2019.
Beckenham Town, managed by Jason Huntley, sit in second place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected 18 points from seven games and are level on points on leaders Chatham Town but Beckenham do have a couple of games in hand.
“It should be a good game tonight against a very strong Brentford B team,” said Walton, whose side have won their last six games going into the First Round tie.
“We have a good squad to play with tonight and we will be able to give a lot of players a chance to impress who have not had a lot of minutes due to the fact that we have had good performance in the league so far.
“It will be good to go into the game as underdogs so we can relax and enjoy and play with no fear.
“Brentford will definitely play on our pitch and so will we as the lads coming in are all good footballers. They are all looking forward to it and have a chance to impress for a place on Saturday against a good Bearsted side.
“I want this squad to achieve something special this season and hopefully we can.
“We’ve got the best team spirit going at the club at the moment that I have seen for a long time.
“Whatever the result tonight, hopefully it will be a classic for everyone.”
Brentford's first team sit in seventeenth-place in the Championship with eight points from as many games and are seven levels higher than their hosts.
Beckenham Town have confirmed their admission prices for tonight’s game: £8 (adults) and £4 (concessions/under 16s).
