Beckenham Town agree to play Kent Senior Trophy tie at Glebe

The Kent Senior Trophy Quarter-Final tie between Glebe and Beckenham Town will be played at Foxbury Avenue tomorrow after Beckenham Town held a meeting this afternoon and agreed to switch the fixture.

 

The two sides were due to meet at Eden Park Avenue last Saturday and the pitch passed a 10:30 pitch inspection but the match referee decided that it was waterlogged upon his arrival and called the game off.

The game was re-arranged for three days later and was postponed just two hours and 45 minutes before the scheduled kick-off.

A club statement said that “ongoing pitch draining issues” ensured the game was postponed for a second time.

On Wednesday, Beckenham Town said: “It is with huge disappointment that the club have received news of the Kent FA decision to switch the Kent Senior Trophy Quarter-Final venue to Glebe and to insist that this tie now takes place on Saturday 25 January.”

Beckenham Town were due at Foxbury Avenue tomorrow to play Glebe in a Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division fixture but the Kent Senior Trophy tie takes priority.

Beckenham warned in their statement earlier in the week that they were considering withdrawing from the County cup and held a meeting this afternoon and decided to go ahead with the reversed fixture.

“This move, once again, taken without any consultation with Beckenham Town Football Club, is, in our opinion, both unnecessary and unjustified.  The Final isn’t until April," added the original statement.

“The club will now consider its future involvement in the Kent Senior Trophy over the next 48 hours.”

Glebe’s social media department contacted Beckenham Town via Twitter at lunchtime today and asked “can you please confirm if you are playing the fixture tomorrow?”

This website contacted Beckenham Town secretary Peter Palmer, who replied by text message, “We are having a meeting this afternoon.”

The Eden Park Avenue outfit confirmed that they will be playing the game at Glebe tomorrow, saying at 16:45 this afternoon, "This cup fixture replaces the previous scheduled League game following the Kent Football Association's decision to reverse the tie."

Beckenham Town are the league leaders with 47 points in the bag from their 21 league games, while Gary Alexander’s Glebe are in seventh-place with 30 points from their 18 league outings.

Corinthian have been drawn at home to Beckenham Town or Glebe in the Kent Senior Trophy Semi-Finals, while Sheppey United have home advantage over Bearsted.
