Brentwood Town boss Adam Flanagan: It's a massive statement of intent to sign a player of Rob Swaine's calibre
BRENTWOOD TOWN manager Adam Flanagan has enticed centre-half Rob Swaine to leave Welling United to sign for his home-town club.
The 32-year-old spent two seasons playing for Vanarama National League South side Welling United and has dropped a couple of divisions to play Isthmian League North Division football.
Swaine has played and captained Billericay Town, Bromley, Chelmsford City, Maidstone United and the Wings and sealed promotions at both Billericay Town and Bromley.
Former Dartford joint-manager Flanagan told the Brentwood website: “It’s a massive statement of intent by this football club to sign a player of Rob’s calibre and is a testament to the direction the club is now headed in under our chairman.”
Swaine added: “I saw the statement that (chairman) Jez Dickinson put out in the local paper recently about his exciting vision for the future of the football club and it prompted me to get in touch with Adam.
“I was impressed further with Jez and Adam when I met to discuss the possibility of coming to the club.
“We met for a second time and we were able to settle on an agreement. I am really looking forward to coming in and hopefully being a catalyst in helping the club achieve its goals.
“I have travelled for my football in recent season and with my growing personal training business and other business interests requiring more of my time, I feel I need to be playing more local once again.
“I work in Brentwood so it is the natural choice for me and now with the ambition being shown by the club, I hope we can both equally have success together.”
The Essex side were sitting in the bottom four at the time of the abandonment of the 2019-20 campaign due to the coronavirus health pandemic.
