Bromley recall striker Paul Vines from his loan spell at Maidstone United

Thursday 06th January 2011
BROMLEY assistant manager Hayden Bird has welcomed striker Paul Vines back to the club today, following his loan spell with Ryman Premier League side Maidstone United, writes Stephen McCartney.

“We are delighted to welcome Vinsey back into the fold,” Bird told www.bromleyfc.co.uk.

“I believe he will be a real asset to the squad during the second half of the season.”

Although the former Tooting & Mitcham hit-man’s loan was blighted by the weather, Bird remains convinced bringing him back is the right decision.

He said: “Unfortunately Paul only played two games for Maidstone due to the number of postponements in December. However, I have been speaking to him regularly and we all feel the right decision is for Paul to return rather than extend the agreement.

“We would have all liked Paul to have played six or seven games for Maidstone and been amongst the goals, that was clearly the reason for the loan.

“However, I have no doubt of qualities he will bring to the forward line and have every confidence in him scoring fifteen goals or more in his first season”.

Bird was also quick to praise the outgoing Danny Hockton, adding, “Danny has been really unfortunate not to have played more, like Paul his loan was ruined by the weather.

“Ideally, we would have loved to have extended his agreement in addition to bringing Paul back. Unfortunately, budget restraints prevented us from doing that. During his month, Danny showed everyone he still has the ability to play at this level and personally, I can only speak highly of him. His attitude was exceptional and was a very positive influence on the squad.”

Vines, who has scored five goals for The Lillywhites on his return to the club this season, will return to the squad for Saturday’s trip to St Albans City.

Bromley are presently in second place in the Blue Square Bet South table, with a record of 10 wins and 7 draws from 20 games, and are two points behind Braintree Town, but the Essex side have a couple of games in hand.

St Albans were the first side that Bromley dropped points against after a whirl-wind start.

The Kent side won seven consecutive league games against Dorchester Town, Boreham Wood, Hampton & Richmond Borough, Havant & Waterlooville, Welling United and Bishop’s Stortford, before St Albans parked the team bus to snatch a point in a 1-1 draw at Hayes Lane on 11 September.

St Albans, who ended Kent League side Beckenham Town’s FA Cup run in the Second Qualifying Round at Clarence Park, sit two places above the relegation zone, with three wins and seven draws from their 18 games and are four points clear of third-from-bottom Lewes.
