Bromley retain eight players from last season
Tuesday 15th May 2012
BROMLEY secretary Colin Russell has tonight issued the club’s retained list. The Hayes Lane club endured a miserable campaign in Blue Square Bet (Conference) South, finishing in seventeenth-place and escaping relegation by two points.
Home fans witnessed four league wins at Hayes Lane all season and they played out ten draws on home soil, but a string of quality signings throughout the second part of the season ensured the club beat the drop in their penultimate game after picking up 26 of their 45 points during their last 21 games.
However, the highlights of the campaign came in the FA Cup where wins over their Kent rivals, Welling United, Margate and Dartford set up a trip to Leyton Orient in the First Round, where they bravely went out 3-0 to the League One side at Brisbane Road.
But with a spine of quality players signed up with next season in mind, Bromley will be expected to enjoy a better season next time out.
Mr Russell issued the following statement on the club’s website www.bromleyfc.net.
He said: “Our retained list was submitted last week and consisted of those players already on contract for next year along with those on contract last season who have been offered a new deal for the coming year.”
The following eight players will be at Hayes Lane next season.
Goalkeeper: Joe Welch
Defenders: Liam Harwood, Moses Swaibu
Midfielders: Ali Fuseini, Albert Jarrett, Pierre Joseph-Dubois
Strikers: Hakeem Araba, Michael Malcolm
Mr Russell added: “Talks are on-going with the majority of the last season’s squad and some have already agreed terms.
“However, the Football Conference are not yet accepting non-contract registrations for the coming season and, as always, the club are not prepared to announce the signing of a player until all the paperwork has been lodged with and confirmed by the relevant organisations.”
The Bromley secretary, who works at The Football Association, explained how the summer transfer system works.
He said: “By the 1st June every side with one or more contract players has to send to The Football Association their retained list. This lets The FA know the status of all the players who were on contract at the end of the season, which for non-league sides at Bromley’s level and below was 5th May 2012 this year.”
Meanwhile, the club have confirmed that they will enter a reserve side in the Suburban League next season.
Trials for the Academy take place this coming Saturday and Academy coach Murray Jones said: “Academy students will play in the Under 19 Football Conference Youth Alliance with two teams representing Bromley, which is seen as the senior national youth competition outside of the professional game.
“Bromley Blues will continue to play in the newly formed elite Premier Division with Bromley Whites playing in the South C Division.”
Jones, who is also assistant manager to first team boss Goldberg, added, “Academy players who have performed well can also be selected to play in the Suburban Reserve League.”
