Bromley striker McBean targets play-off push

Monday 19th January 2009

BROMLEY striker Warren McBean took his goalscoring tally to 15 for the season - with a brace in the nine-goal thriller at St Albans City on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

Mark Goldberg’s side raced into a 3-0 lead inside the opening 31 minutes, through Ryan Hall, McBean and Adrian Stone, before a Simon Martin hat-trick brought the hosts level.

McBean added his second - and Bromley’s fourth - with sixteen minutes of this extraordinary Blue Square South game remaining - and Luke I’Anson made it 4-3, before St Albans pulled another goal back in the last minute, through substitute Danny Charge.

McBean, who turns 23 next month, was pleased that he helped Bromley secure their first win since 9th December.

“It was a really frantic game in difficult conditions,” McBean told www.bromleyfc.net.

“When we were 3-0 up, we were just hanging in there and invited pressure on ourselves, which meant that St Albans coming back was inevitable - but we cam through in the end.”

The former Sutton United striker added, “When we drew Havant & Waterloovile, we were really looking forward to the next game, but it was a shame that the Braintree Town game was called off.

“We really wanted that game to be on but when this game came around, all the boys wanted it and we were all hungry and ready.

“I think everyone was pretty much fit, so when the game came we were ready and really wanted to win.”

Now tenth in the Blue Square South table, McBean is targeting the play-off’s. The Hayes Lane outfit are only six points adrift off local rivals Welling United, who occupy the final play-off berth, although the gap could be lengthened if the Wings beat Team Bath at Park View Road tomorrow night.

“We’re all looking up to the play-off’s now,” insisted McBean. “The main thing in my mind is that I need to keep scoring and contributing to the team.”

Looking ahead to the visit of Dorchester Town on Saturday, McBean added, “We have to keep this going now and maybe get on a little run. If we can do that then we will close the gap on the play-offs and see where we can go from there.”

Meanwhile, Karl Murray, who has just returned from a short term loan with Ebbsfleet United, has now joined Blue Square Premier side Northwich Victoria on loan.

Murray made nine appearances for Bromley and joins a side that are currently at the foot of the table.
