Burman gives his Dartford side top marks at Oxford
DARTFORD boss Tony Burman was delighted that his side came away with a 4-2 victory at Oxford City tonight - to book a trip to Blue Square South side St Albans City in the final qualifying round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy, writes Stephen McCartney.
Burman was pleased with his side’s character after going a goal down at Court Marsh Place Stadium before racing into a 3-1 lead at the break, before eventually winning by two clear goals.
The Darts were held to a 3-3 draw by the British Gas Business Premier League side at Princes Park on Saturday and the manager, speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk, just before boarding the team bus home, was pleased that his side had finished off the job, as planned, in Oxfordshire.
“Really pleased with the performance away from home, even though we did conceded two goals,” he said.
“I thought the defence was excellent tonight and after going a goal down, from our own corner (where) we hit the bar and (the ball was) cleared off the line, they broke from us and scored.
“To come back, again, showed a lot of character and we were 3-1 up at half-time and we were in control of the game.”
Striker, Cody McDonald is fast becoming a hot-property, as his two goals tonight has taken his goalscoring tally to seven goals in just four starts for the Princes Park club.
And Burman said: “He’s had a great start to his Dartford career, but he’s still got a lot to learn and he will be a good player for us.”
Steve Butterworth and Lee Noble scored the other goals.
Burman revealed he kept his side focused before the game tonight and can now start planning for their trip to Clarence Park in the next round on 22 November, but picking up three Ryman Premier League points at Harrow Borough on Saturday is vitally as important as a FA Trophy run.
“Well, we didn’t think about St Albans before the game and we’ve played very well tonight and we can go there and enjoy ourselves,” he said.
“We’ve made hard work of this tie and nevertheless we’ve gone though and when St Albans comes around we’ll look forward to it.
“St Albans are in a higher division than us. We want to stay in the FA Trophy, (but) we’ve got a lot of games before than and they're the most important at this moment in time.
“It was a good team performance and I’ve got to mention Danny Dafter and Lee Noble were excellent tonight. Having said that it was a good all round team performance.
"I thought the support we received tonight was absolutely superb. We’ve had a lot of people travel up to support the club. When we did go 1-0 down the crowd got behind us and they were excellent.”
