Burman's Darts embark on big week
Friday 18th September 2009
DARTFORD boss Tony Burman says his side face three big away games in the next seven days, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Ryman Premier League table-toppers travel to Carshalton Athletic tomorrow; Sutton United next Tuesday and travel to Worthing in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup next Saturday.
Burman, speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk on the eve of their trip to Colston Avenue, is taking one game at a time.
“Obviously they’re two big games,” admitted Burman. “We’ve got a big week, obviously we’re away to Worthing next Saturday as well - they’re three big, good games and hopefully we’ll come through them ok.”
The Darts boss added, “Unfortunately you have to say it’s the next three points and we want to get another three points in the bank (at Carshalton).
“We’re not really worried what position we’re in at the moment with regards to the league table. We’re just building the bank up to get as many points over the next few months.”
The Kent giants are seen as a big scalp this season - and all three opponents will be looking forward to attracting bigger crowds to their grounds as normal as they look forward to feeding and watering hundreds of buoyant Darts fans.
“We’ve earned that right with our position, but at the end of the day, what we’ve done in the first seven games then we’ll be very difficult to beat but we will endeavour to keep getting three points in the next game,” said Burman.
The Darts boss isn’t even contemplating their trip to Sutton United’s Gander Green Lane next Tuesday.
The U’s knocked Margate out of the FA Cup last Tuesday, with a 3-2 win over Terry Yorath’s men after extra time at a depressingly wet Gander Green Lane - and Paul Doswell takes his side to Longmead Stadium to lock horns with Tonbridge Angels tomorrow.
“Well, as I say, we’ve got to go to Carshalton tomorrow,” Burman said. “We know it’s going to be tough and we want to win the game and we’ll try and win the game at Sutton as well.
“It is a big week but if we get two good results against those two teams, I’m sure we’ll be up there at the end of the season. It’ll be a massive boost.”
Midfield general, Danny Dafter, who pulled his calf muscle during training eight days ago, could return to action against Sutton.
“There’s a chance he will be ok and back in on Tuesday,” added Burman.
