Burman set to make changes for Trophy tie at Sittingbourne
Wednesday 14th October 2009
DARTFORD boss Tony Burman says any side that he plays will have enough quality to get past lower-league Sittingbourne in the first qualifying round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.
Burman’s men travel to Bourne Park with a nice distraction of cup football, having romped to an ELEVEN point lead at the top of the Ryman Premier League table and having dropped only two points from their first eleven outings.
Cash-strapped Sittingbourne are looking forward to welcoming at least 500 supporters to Bourne Park on Saturday - and Burman, speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk following his side’s 2-0 home win over Tonbridge Angels last night, is taking this competition seriously.
“The Trophy run won’t be a distraction at all at the moment,” said Burman. “I’d love to go on a run in it as long as there’s not too many replay’s and things like that.
“It’s not a distraction at all. It’s an excellent competition for us to be in and when I’ve got a squad like I have, I want to play people and give them games so it won’t be a problem for us at all.”
Sittingbourne boss Gary Abbott was delighted that his side came through two games against Ryman League Division One North side Wingate & Finchley to book a lucrative Kent derby against Dartford.
And Burman says his side will have to deal with the conditions at Bourne Park.
“We’ve had Sittingbourne watched when they won the game (at Wingate & Finchley in the last round), we’ve seen them play and you’ve got to have the right sort of attitude when you go down into Sittingbourne,” said Burman.
“There’s no disrespect, that’s the way it is. The players have not shown me once this year t hat they haven’t got the right attitude and I don’t expect them to have that on Saturday.
“I just want us to go and beat Sittingbourne on Saturday really and my main aim this year is to get promotion.”
The Darts boss, who made three changes to his side against Tonbridge Angels last night, has revealed that more changes could be made for this game.
Burman said: “Any eleven that we put out will be a good side and we felt that on Saturday (in the FA Cup against Blue Square South side Chelmsford City)
“We could’ve scored four or five goals in the second half Saturday with the chances that we created and that’s by playing not so well.
“Whatever eleven we put out we think we’ll win league games so hopefully it will be good enough to go down Sittingbourne and get a result.”
