Burman tells fans to raise the roof as Darts return to their bread and butter
Dartford return to the “bread and butter” of Ryman League football on Tuesday night - after their six-match FA Cup campaign came to an end on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.
Former Margate striker, Danny Hockton, scored the only goal of the third qualifying round clash, netting in the 55th minute after Tony Kessell had initially saved the Bromley striker’s spot-kick.
Eastbourne Borough, who had knocked out Welling United on Saturday, host their Blue Square South rivals, in the fourth and final qualifying round on 27th October, and are favourites to progress into the first round proper.
But Darts boss Tony Burman knows that picking up all three points at Princes Park on Tuesday night against Great Wakering Rovers is the most important thing - in their bid to clinch promotion out of the Ryman League Division One North.
And Burman has issued a rallying cry to the Darts faithful to raise the roof - like the 400 that travelled to Hayes Lane on Saturday.
“So our FA Cup run has come to an end for this season, but I have to say it’s been an enjoyable six games,” Burman reflected on www.dartfordfc.co.uk.
“I hope it’s brought everybody at the club a little more closer so we can concentrate on our main objective, which is to win promotion.
Burman rued the missed chances from striker Brendon Cass, and was also pleased with the performance of his striker partner, Jay May.
“Before the game against Bromley I felt we had a chance to cause an upset, and after the game, I felt we were unlucky not to achieve this,” admitted the boss.
“Bromley are a very good side who play two levels above us, yet we still created enough chances to worry them and on another day Cassie would have come away with two or three goals mainly helped by Jay, who I felt had a very good game.”
But Burman supported former Folkestone Invicta defender Steve Norman, whose foul on Barry Moore inside the box, settled the tie.
He said: “The penalty was unfortunate as the player was going nowhere but Norms mis-timed the tackle for once. But to be fair, Steve and the rest of the back four were excellent.”
May begins his suspension for the visit of Iain O’Connell’s Great Wakering Rovers side, but Burman recalls star midfielder Junior Kadi, a recent capture from Bromley.
And another striker, Tom Bradbrook is unavailable for their next two games, as he’s away in America.
Burman added: “So we must move on and concentrate on tomorrow night’s game with Great Wakering Rovers, a league game, which is our bread and butter.
“I must admit I do like the night games at Princes Park and if we could continue with the same support that we have been getting, then the atmosphere is going to be excellent.”
