Cables' taken from Culverden Stadium

Friday 30th January 2009

TUNBRIDGE WELLS manager Mike Robbins confirmed this morning that he has released star-striker Ross Cable, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Culverden Stadium club have made public that their Bulmers Cider Kent League rivals Erith & Belvedere have submitted an official seven-day approach for the much-travelled striker.

Erith & Belvedere can climb above fourth-placed Wells if they win at Deal Town tomorrow, but Robbins, speaking to www.tunbridgewellsfc.co.uk, says he is confident that he can replace his leading goalscorer.

He said: “Obviously we wish Ross the best at his new club and thank him for his efforts for the club this season, but we also need to look forwards.

“I’m not in a position to name any names right now, but we have made an approach for another established striker, and expect to be able to announce who that is shortly.”

Ross Cable had scored 19 goals in 28 starts for the Wells, and Robbins believes in spite of the striker’s departure, there is plenty left within the side to finish the season strongly.

He said: “Don’t forget that Mike Lord scored some 18 goals last year and we also have Wes Tate returning from his ankle injury, so there is no need to press any panic buttons!

“We have a very good side here. It takes more than one name to make that work. We’re about team work here - digging in for each other.

“Once we’ve brought in our expected replacement after the weekend, it will be all systems go again.”

Ross’ brother, Rikki, who scored three goals in only five appearances for the club, has recently departed and has re-joined Ryman League Division One North outfit Thamesmead Town, where he is leading goalscorer.
