We’ve got a tough game tomorrow at Chichester City, which is probably one of the toughest draws we could have got, says Canterbury City boss Ben Smith

CANTERBURY CITY manager Ben Smith says his side face a tough game at Chichester City tomorrow.

The club travel to Oaklands Park for a Second Round tie in The Buildbase FA Vase sitting in 12^th place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 16 points from 13 games.

Chichester City, meanwhile, go into the game in the top five in the Southern Combination Premier Division table, having won nine, drawn four of their league outings and looking to make it a hat-trick of FA Vase wins over Kent clubs.

“We’ve got a tough game tomorrow at Chichester City, which is probably one of the toughest draws we could have got,” said Smith.

“They are going well in their league and have knocked both Whitstable and Sheppey out of The FA Vase this season, so we will have to be at our best to progress in the competition.

“But we’ve been impressive in the Cup competitions so far this season so will go there with a good level of optimism. 

“It would have been nice to carry the momentum of our recent form into this fixture but it’s not to be having been beaten at Cray Valley on Saturday, which is probably the most disappointing performance this season.”

Smith revealed that Dan Lawrence is definitely out tomorrow while winger Mikey Yome is a week away from fitness and full-back Patrick Nzuzi is unlikely to recover in time for tomorrow’s game.

“It gives others in the squad an opportunity to show why they should be playing and potentially brings a couple of youth team players into the squad, which will be great experience for them,” added Smith.
