I’ve got a lot of respect for Corinthian as a club and it's always been hard to take points from them, says Canterbury City boss Ben Smith

CANTERBURY CITY manager Ben Smith says bringing midfielder Danny Lawrence back to the club has been a real coup.

Lawrence has returned to the club from Bostik South side Ramsgate and goes straight into the squad that faces seventh-placed Corinthian at The Charles Sports Ground in Deal tomorrow.

Canterbury City became the first side to take points away from Greatness Park as they came away from league leaders Sevenoaks Town with a 2-2 draw two weeks ago.

Smith’s men are in tenth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 31 points from 21 games, while Corinthian have banked 37 points from the same number of league outings.

“Tomorrow’s game is a tough one against a good Corinthian side,” said Smith.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for them as a club and it's always been hard to take points from them. We're in good form at the moment so we need to play with the increased confidence we have built and see where that takes us in the game.

“Last time out (at Sevenoaks) we showed fantastic character to come from two down against the best this league has to offer so that second half performance is the benchmark for us and if we can get to that level we'll win more than we lose that's for sure!

“It's been great boost to be able to bring Dan Lawrence back to the club. We know that he will be able to fit in straight away with no problems as he's been a key player for Ramsgate all season so it is a real coup for the club.”
