Tim Clark steps down as Canterbury City's chairman

CANTERBURY CITY chairman Tim Clark has stepped down from his role as chairman of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division club.

 

Clark, who has been on the board for 13 years, the last 12 of those years as chairman, is stepping down as chairman and as a director on the board.  Also stepping down from their roles as the club are treasurer Keith Vaughan and board director Keith Longley.

“During Tim Clark and Keith Vaughan's period at the club they have both devoted an incredible amount of time to advance the football club forward, particularly through a lengthy ground location consultation with the Council, and more latterly the unsuccessful planning application at Highland Court,” said a club statement.

“Also over this period, we saw Canterbury City promoted from the Kent County League to what was then the Kent League with our first ground share at Herne Bay, followed by ground shares at Ashford, Deal Town, Faversham and now Sittingbourne. There was also the memorable FA Vase run where Canterbury City reached the semi-finals, narrowly missing out on a trip to Wembley.

“We are delighted to announce that joining our club secretary Richie Moore on the new board of directors is successful businessman Trevor James who donated financially to the club last season and will be our new chairman.

“Keith Bird our experienced first team manager who joined the club in January this year to take over the first team and together with last season's management team, and hardworking squad, steered the club away from relegation. Finally, Kerry Barnham a successful businesswomen who joins the board as commercial director with a track record of raising sponsorship and revenue streams.

Clark told the club website: “The club is in safe hands with Trevor James, Keith Bird, Richie Moore and Kerry Barnham, who have the drive and talent to push the club forward. 

“I feel they are the best people to develop the club and both myself and Keith Vaughan really do wish the new board and the club all the very best and a successful future.

“It has been an honour to serve as chairman, and my only regret is that the club was not able to secure the planning permission for their own stadium and a return to the city they represent during my tenure. I am sure that this is an injustice that the new Board will resolve.”

Canterbury City shall be playing their home games at Sittingbourne's Woodstock Park during the 2022-23 season.
